A new retailer is coming to York.
Flying Tiger Copenhagen has been revealed as the shop moving into the Coppergate Centre.
It will be the Danish chain’s first store in Yorkshire – and brings Coppergate to full occupancy.
Flying Tiger Copenhagen is currently fitting out the unit between Fenwick and York St Mary’s with opening planned for Friday November 9.
That’s perfect timing, as that night the centre’s Christmas lights are switched on.
It sells “cool and unique products from home décor and children’s toys to gadgets, gifts and inspirational items to encourage play, creativity and social interaction – with surprisingly affordable price tags”.
A perfect fit
“The Coppergate Centre is one of the most family-friendly parts of York city centre, so is a perfect fit for Flying Tiger’s range of fun and often surprising products often designed by their own in-house team,” said Coppergate Centre manager Pippa Unwin.
She added:
-
We get such a wide range of people in the centre, from those seeking historical adventures in Jorvik Viking Centre, and those looking for fashion – affordable, high street and high end – to gift hunters, so Flying Tiger Copenhagen is the perfect brand to complement our existing customer base.
Work on the refit is well underway. The main entrance to the shop has already been moved, and installation of fixtures and fittings has now started.
The new store will open ahead of the busy festive season, which will see Coppergate hosting the city’s Christmas Grotto for the first time, as well as an area where purchasers can pick up real Christmas trees, managed by Stockeld Park as part of the Make It York Christmas market.
Coppergate’s Christmas lights, including two Christmas trees, will be illuminated on Friday, November 9.
The celebration will feature BBC Radio York’s Anna Wallace and Adam Tomlinson, the cast of the Rowntree Players panto, York’s own contact juggler extraordinaire The Ice King, and the choirs of Appleton Roebuck and Sherburn Hungate Primary Schools.
The fun kicks off at 5.30pm.
