Its wing mirror hit one of the windows causing it to shatter.
A man whose wife, 76, was sitting on the seat next to the broken window said the glass came down on her. “She’s shaken up,” he told YorkMix.
“I don’t think she’s been hurt. But I’ve come to take her home.”
Two police vans and an ambulance were called to the scene. It’s not thought anyone was seriously hurt.
The bus with the broken window – the number 11 First York service to Bishopthorpe – came to a halt next to the Swan pub.
Staff from the bus company covered the broken window with plastic and it has now been driven away from the scene.
Traffic was backed up along Bishopthorpe Road and into town when the incident happened. But it is moving again freely now.
A spokesperson for First Bus said: “We can confirm that one of our vehicles was involved in an incident on Bishopthorpe Road earlier today.
“Investigations are now underway, and we are supporting any passengers impacted.”
