Dust off your Lederhosen or your Dirndl as Bavaria is coming to York Racecourse this October.
The residents of York are invited to the Clocktower Enclosure on the Knavesmire from Thursday 28th to Sunday 31st October for Yorktoberfest.
Yorktoberfest will follow the traditions of the first Oktoberfest staged in Munich in 1810 where the citizens were encouraged to eat, drink and be merry at the wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria and his princess bride.
So much fun was had that an annual tradition was born…
Now York is set to enjoy beer, bratwurst and all things Bavarian in this brand-new event.
Ther will be a giant Bavarian-styled beer tent, where inside authentic German beer and a range of German-inspired food will be served. The Bavarian Bar will also serve a range of wines, prosecco, spirits and soft drinks.
A variety of food stalls will cater for all tastes, with the essential favourites of sausages, schnitzels and pretzels as well as vegan and vegetarian options.
York’s own Oompah Brass Band will also add to the fun. Dancing is encouraged, as well as the wearing of Lederhosen, Dirndls or any other fancy dress – there will be nightly prizes for the best dressed!
Funfairs are an integral part of German Oktoberfests and Yorktoberfest will have its very own traditional funfair with Dodgems, Twister, Speedway and Chair-o-Plane.
Yorktoberfest is produced by CMJ Events Ltd, a joint venture between two York-based, family-owned companies, Coopers Marquees Ltd and Jamboree Entertainment Ltd.
Yorktoberfest will have a limited capacity, with specific opening times: Thurs, Fri & Sat 7-11pm, Sat & Sun 1-5pm.
