Body found at well-known North Yorkshire landmark
Police and mountain rescuers have found the body of a woman at Captain Cook’s Monument, a landmark on popular walking route in North Yorkshire.
At around 9pm on Saturday (17 April, North Yorkshire Police received a report concerned for the safety of a woman in Great Ayton.
A police spokesperson said: “Officers attended an area near to Captain Cook’s Monument along with Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team.
“Sadly, the body of a woman in her 20s was located in the area in the early hours of Sunday (18 April).”
The woman’s family have been informed. There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding her death and a report will be prepared for the coroner for an inquest at a later date.
