If you’ve ever wanted to try your hand at writing the next blockbuster – then this screenwriting course might be for you.
York screenwriter Jimmy Richards is offering a ten week course covering all things screenwriting, which covers everything from generating the original idea to marketing the finished script.
But the course comes with a difference – Jimmy is offering a free taster evening as a chance to try the course out before signing up.
“I’ve signed up to courses myself,” said Jimmy, “and it’s always hard to know what you’ll get. If the course really isn’t for you or the tutor is boring then you’ve thrown your money away.”
Jimmy has been in the industry since the mid-90s. He won a BAFTA for the BBC film ‘Truth or Dare’ in 1997 at the BAFTA Scotland Awards. After being sold to Hollywood, the film also went on to win at the San Francisco International Film Festival.
Jimmy has been teaching screenwriting for over 20 years and is currently a screenwriting lecturer at the University of York.
The taster evening will take place on Friday 11 March at 8pm at The Black Swan on Peasholme Green. The evening is completely free and will outline the basics of screenwriting and how the course will work.
Attendees will then have the opportunity to sign up for the longer course if they like what they hear.
“Screenwriting isn’t easy,” Jimmy said. “But learning the rules and conventions makes it a lot easier. And 25 years of teaching has taught me that good screenwriters can come from any background and can be any age.”
To register your interest in the taster evening, phone or text 07858 390497 or email [email protected] – or simply turn up on the night!
