Armed police operation in York city centre – Two areas cordoned off
Armed police were seen in York on Wednesday night after an incident in the city centre.
At about 9pm, witnesses saw an ambulance and several police cars arrive in Walmgate.
Later two unmarked BMW SUVs came to the scene. Armed police left the vehicles and headed down Margaret Street.
The ambulance then left the scene with its blue lights flashing.
Tonight a police van is still on Margaret Street, and a property there is cordoned off by tape.
Meanwhile, the riverside walk alongside the Coppergate Centre is also sealed off.
There is police tape at each entrance, and a police officer is guarding one end.
A fire engine is also parked close to the River Foss.
We contacted North Yorkshire Police but they said they couldn’t say anything as it was an ongoing incident.
We don’t yet know if the Coppergate and Margaret Street police cordons are connected.
