The A64 was closed for several hours overnight to allow police to deal with an incident in the early hours today.
YorkMix first reported the closure at 1.15am this morning (Wednesday).
It was shut in both directions between the B1248 (Musley Bank) and A169 (Malton). Traffic was diverted via local roads through Malton.
Now North Yorkshire Police have revealed the reason for the road closure.
A force spokesperson said: “The A64 was closed in both directions for several hours in the Malton area this morning.
“It was following reports from members of the public who were concerned about a distressed person in the area.
“The person was brought to safety and is now receiving the help they need.
“The A64 reopened in both directions at 3.20am.
“Police would like to thank motorists in the area for their patience whilst the incident was brought to a safe conclusion.”
