Police have released details of a number of people charged with crimes in York city centre during the past week.
In an update to subscribers of the force’s community messaging service, Neighbourhood Policing Sergeant for York Inner Toby Gorwood listed some of those arrested and sent to court.
They include several shoplifters, and a violent incident on a city bridge.
Here are the crimes:
- A 28-year-old woman was charged with theft “from stealing a staggering £2,127 worth of perfume” from three shops in January.
- “One of our prolific shoplifters”, a 41-year-old man, was charged with stealing coffee and moisturiser from a city centre supermarket in January.
- A 52-year-old man was charged with actual bodily harm following a violent incident on Ouse Bridge at the end of April
- “One of our well-known drinkers”, a 37-year-old man, was charged with being drunk and disorderly and assaulting an emergency worker towards the end of May
- and a 50-year-old man, “well known to police”, was charged with stealing £143 worth of lamb in the city centre at the end of May.
In a separate update, Sgt Gorwood listed some other incidents dealt with by the York City Centre Neighbourhood Policing Team during the week.
- A woman was arrested last Thursday (5 June) for the supply of controlled drugs. She has been released on bail while more evidence to be gathered
- A man described as a “prolific shoplifter” was charged with three counts of shop theft. He was bailed with the condition not to enter the city centre or Clarence Street area
- Two men were arrested on Saturday night on Blossom Street, one for supplying drugs and another for possessing drugs. “This took considerable time to deal with due to both males being intoxicated and one requiring hospital treatment before it could be dealt with.”
