A pop-up event for LGBTQ+ women and non-binary people is coming to York this weekend.
The event is organised by Sappho Events – one of the leading events companies for LGBTQ+ women and non-binary people in the UK.
Taking place on Saturday 24 September at Spark:York, the event will run from 1pm to 9:30pm and include speed dating, a board games afternoon, queer writing workshop, and open-mic poetry night for queer creatives.
Sappho Events was founded in 2020 to offer sober social events for the LGBTQ+ community away from traditional alcohol-fuelled bars and nightclubs.
It focuses especially on LGBTQ+ women and non-binary people – who have historically had less representation in LGBTQ+ spaces.
The company usually runs monthly events in London, but this year they received a grant from Consortium’s LGBT+ Futures: Equity Fund to bring their events UK wide.
York will be the first stop of the tour – as part of a plan to set up bases in further regional hubs including Manchester, Birmingham, and Bristol.

Maryann Wright, founder and CEO of Sappho Events said, “For the past two years we’ve worked really hard to find a formula of events that offer the queer community fun ways to connect with one another, and we can’t wait to meet the queer community in York!”
Tickets start at £8, with day passes available for £25. For more information and to book your tickets – visit the Sappho Events website.
