A fudge-covered donut is one of the sweet treats on offer at this new York shop – See inside
If you have a sweet tooth, this is the place for you – as new dessert shop Batch’d has opened on Coppergate in York.
Think mouth-watering treats such as decadent doughnuts, gooey brownies, huge cookie pie slices, and more…
Batch’d is a family run company that sells artisan desserts. The handmade desserts are made by bakeries across Yorkshire and sold in Batch’d stores.
Some of the bakeries showcased include Doboy Donuts, The Brownie Box, and Sweet Tooth Bakery.
“It’s about showing off the local talent,” said Chelsea Simpson, team leader at the Coppergate store.
“It’s something new and something that’s not really been done before.”
The company – previously called Arrow Fresh – started in May 2021, after at a food festival they noticed how much customers loved the sweet treats being showcased. The first Batch’d was at the White Rose Centre in Leeds.
Batch’d now has locations across England, including Birmingham, Manchester, Sheffield and at York’s Designer Outlet – and now they’re at the heart of the city centre.
The dessert shop on Coppergate opened last Friday.
“It’s been really positive and really busy,” said Chelsea. “We sold out on a lot of products over the weekend.
“We’ve had a few people come back and tell us how much they’ve enjoyed everything.”
Some of the delicious desserts include the ‘Circle of Fudge’, which is a doughnut dipped in in fudge icing, topped with homemade fudge whipped cream and caramel drizzle – and happens to be vegan!
Or why not try one of the ‘cookie bowls’ from 42nd East Bakehouse, which is a giant cookie with cookie dough and chocolate on top.
There will also be seasonal themed treats to keep an eye out for, such as Valentine’s Day and Christmas.

The bakehouse has a cosy but modern feel inside, with eye-catching neon lighting.
“It’s American-style with a Yorkshire twist.”
There are a few tables to sit in, with plans to open the upstairs for further seating in the summer.
The Coppergate location has created around six jobs, with plans to expand in the future.
Currently the opening times are 9:30am-6pm, Monday to Friday, and 9am-6pm on Saturday and 9am-5pm on Sunday – though this is subject to change.
