Open Edible Gardens & more outdoor fun

Just like the fruit and veg it produces, the Edible Gardens movement is growing. This weekend gardeners across York are flinging open their gates to showcase their efforts and show how easy it is to turn a plot of land into an outdoor larder. Saturday at various times – more here.

Emmerdale cricket match – & more charity fun

Some of the soap regulars leave the Woolpack for Heworth Cricket Club on Sunday for a cricket match raising money for cancer charities. It kicks off at 2pm, with stalls and a raffle accompanying the sporting endeavours – more here.

York Races and more sport

It’s one of the bigger events in York’s sporting calendar – John Smith’s Cup day. The big race itself is at 3.25pm on Saturday, part of a seven-race meeting and they’re even playing the Ashes on the big screens. York Racecourse opens its doors at 11.15am – more here.
