Artists Garden
From roaring engines and the smell of petrol fumes, to total tranquility… The first artwork is now in place at the new Artists Garden behind York Art Gallery. Called Foundation Myths it consists of bright yellow ceramic tree trunks. Sit, contemplate, relax. Open daily.

You know those movie musicals where everyone spontaneously breaks into a dance routine as if they’d been rehearsing all their lives? It will be a bit like that on Sunday morning when hundreds of dancers will be filmed dancing around the likes of High Petergate and Lendal in York for a new BBC show. Go and take a gander: it’s free. Cycling in the Park
Have you been inspired by Team GB’s golden cyclists? Get back in the saddle with this event at Rowntree Park on Saturday. York Bike Belles will be on hand to offer free try-outs of child seats and trailers, try the confidence sessions for nervous cyclists, and there’s a free health check for your bike too. More here.

It’s the final day of four at the Ebor Festival on Saturday and a big crowd is expected at York Racecourse. The big event of the day is the Ebor Handicap, the oldest race at York and the richest flat handicap in Europe. And for a different perspective on the day, take a look at the video above…

Castle Howard Proms
Anything the Albert Hall can do, Castle Howard can do better, and with more fireworks… The annual proms spectacular sees guest soloist Aled Jones and soprano Janet Mooney belting out the classical hits with the English National Orchestra.
