Congrats to the York City Knights Ladies, who triumphed today in the Betfred Women’s Super League Semi Final.
It finished York 12 Wigan Warriors 4, a terrific victory which saw the Knights players lift the League Leaders Shield and secure a place in the Grand Final for the first time.
Director of rugby Lindsay Anfield spoke of her pride after the match.
“You can’t put words on days like this,” she told the York City Knights website.
“The girls and the staff have put everything into this season, so to come here, get to a Grand Final and lift the League Leaders Shield is just immense.
“The players today gave it absolutely everything – defensively, getting numbers in the tackle, getting off the line, all the basics they did in abundance.”
After a tough first half, it was 0-0 at half time. But that changed right after the kick off after the break.

“Before we even sat down Savannah scored right in front of me!” Lindsay said.
Three Knights players have been nominated for this year’s Woman of Steel award.
Star full-back Tara Jane Stanley, co-captain Sinead Peach and impressive back-rower Hollie Dodd have all been named on the shortlist.
Lindsay said: “It’s a group unlike anything I’ve ever been involved with before in the past – they’re just an amazing group of girls and an amazing group of staff.
“I’m just the person that tries to bring it all together. So I couldn’t be more pleased today.”
